Meaghamann would work better for action film buffs, and a few scenes are pretty hard-core and intense. The film doesn’t engage consistently, particularly, the slow manner in which some of the actors deliver their lines, gives a dragging effect.
Handsome hunk Arya looks fit as a fiddle and his ‘swagger’ factor is lifted several notches by composer Thaman’s kick-ass theme track which is placed at the right moments.
The film does offer quite a few moments for fans of Arya and the action movie genre in general. Meaghamann is a good outing for the star with the pre-interval stunt sequence being the highlight.
Thaman’s overall work on the background score is consistent and offers the right amount of tempo to the proceedings. There are just a couple of songs which travel along, without sticking out.
Pretty Hansika relaxes the film’s tension as a college girl who lives in her own small world. One of her little actions has some bearing on the movie in the end.
She seems to have improved markedly in her range of emoting and does her role well. Yean Ingu Vandhaan is a sensual number filmed on the lead pair in an interesting manner. The end credits roll is a revelation. Don’t miss it.
Among the other actors, Harish Uthaman (recently seen in Pisaasu) fits into his given role perfectly. With larger scope, he is sure to make a bigger mark. Ramana takes his share of the spotlight in a key scene prior to the interval. Anupama Kumar also stands out in the proceedings as a responsible senior cop.
The scene of action, Goa is sort of a fresh setting for a Tamil film and DoP Sathish Kumar hasn’t wasted footage in presenting the visual splendor of the land.
His work is in line with the film’s action-packed theme and gritty vision. Editor Srikanth keeps the film taut at just under 2 hours 20 mins, though the film does get low-key at places as said earlier.
Go watch Meaghamann if you are excited by the idea of a serious action film with some style and intelligence. Magizh Thirumeni’s screenplay is plausible with the right cinematic liberties.
